- Isabella Baumfree had a total of 5 children with her husband, Thomas, also a slave of John Dumont of New Paltz Landing.
- In 1864 Sojourner visited President Lincoln in the White House; her goal was to work for better black living conditions there.
- In 1828 Sojourner became the first black woman to take a white man to court and win.
- Sojourner sold her autobiography for 25 cents a copy.
- God gave her the name Sojourner.
- Sojourner’s funeral was the largest funeral ever held at Battle Creek.
- Sojourner was accused of being an accomplice in murder, but she became the first black woman to win a slander suit against a white man and was given $125.
